“I am amazed at the way this person (Modi) has been telling one lie after another about the development work he has done in Gujarat,” he said at a rally in Hardoi, adding, “Over 37,000 farmers have committed suicide in Gujarat since 2001. The State has 85-lakh registered unemployed and another 10-lakh unregistered jobless. Fertiliser prices here are the highest in the country… not to mention the tax on petrol, diesel and CNG, which is also much higher than other states.”
Yadav also alleged that 8,000 villages still did not have drinking water facility in Gujarat and farmers were getting only half-an-hour’s of power supply. Also, 45% women were malnourished in Gujarat, he said.
In an effort to woo the voters, Yadav promised a slew of benefits for farmers like interest free loans and free water for irrigation, besides promising increase of retirement age of government employees and special reservation to Muslims.
Urging the people to vote for SP, he said that only his party could prevent Modi from becoming the Prime Minister.
