According to police the Maoists have called for a change in the system and turn Uttarakhand into a Red bastion. They have also mocked the parliamentary democracy and called for a revolution.
Notably, Uttarakhand had seen Maoist activities in the past and the police claim to have busted a module in 2004 in Bindukhatta by raiding a camp.
In August 2013, an Uttarakhand origin student, identified as Hem Mihsra was arrested from Gadhchiroli in Maharashtra on charges of being a Maoist courier. Prashant Rahi, who was earlier jailed was again arrested in Gondia district of Maharashtra in October 2013 for alleged Maoist activities.
The Uttarakhand police have said that special vigil would be maintained in some areas of Kumaon and along the Indo Nepal border where Maoists activities were reported earlier.
