Senior JD-U leader and spokesperson KC Tyagi had announced the party’s support to Kejriwal in Varanasi and said that he along with JD (U) president Sharad Yadav would campaign for Kejriwal on May 5. Tyagi had also said that the decision was taken after discussions between Yadav and Nitish Kumar.
However, Yadav questioned Tyagi’s announcement on Saturday, saying he was not aware of it and that it was not a party decision.
“I have no idea about it. Ask him (Tyagi) about it,” he said.
State JD (U) president Bashishtha Narayan Singh said no party leader from the state would campaign for Kejriwal in Varanasi. “The party leaders should have been consulted before going public on the issue. Tyagi’s decision to support Kejriwal was taken in a hurry without wider consultations with senior leaders,” he said seeking to keep distance from the announcement of Tyagi on the issue.
Singh said, he had talks with Yadav over the matter but he (Yadav) seemed unaware of the decision. “I have tried to consult Tyagi on the issue but he (Tyagi) was not available on phone,” Singh added.
Singh said since his party had high stakes in Bihar, all its leaders were focussing on the last two phases of polls in general elections and engaged in campaigning and none had any plan to go to Varanasi for canvassing.
