“We have no roads in our village and neither do we have healthcare facilities. If someone falls ill, we have to tie them up in a chair and carry him to Mussoorie. No government has ever thought of us, so what is the point of voting?”said Geeta Rounchella, a resident of the area.
Baldev of Ladoor village said that after repeated meetings, village communities decided to boycott the Lok Sabha elections.
Residents of 15 villages abstained from voting.
“This time we decided not to vote since elected governments and people’s representatives have ignored us for 60 years,” he said.
The villagers had formed committees in each village to persuade people not to vote. The villagers’ resolve was so strong that no one stepped out to vote.
Govind from Tunetha village said, “Not a single villager from these 15 villages voted.”
