In August last year, chief minister Parkash Singh Badal had laid the foundation stone to renovate the existing Sports School and renamed as the Jalandhar Sports Institutes.
Named as the Integrated Sports Hub where facilities such as coaching, schooling etc will be available for players under a roof only, this project was to come up in 32 acres of land.
At the time of the inauguration, no deadline was set to complete the construction of the upcoming sports hub.
BS Tulli, executive engineer, public works department (PWD), said, "We have completed the estimated cost of the integrated project. The total cost of the project is around Rs. 50 crore. There are some administrative and technical aspects which are still to be completed and the department is working on it."
Besides the sports college and school, the chief minister had also announced to start a Meritorious School at the same site to enroll government school students in Class 11 who have secured more than 80% marks.
Interestingly, this project has been completed and the classes will commence from this session.Jatinder Kumar, PWD sub-divisional engineer, said, "The CM had given priority to the Meritorious School building since the admission starts in the month of June and we were asked to complete the project by July 12."
