“The National Democratic Teachers’ Front expresses great satisfaction that the FYUP, which was forcibly introduced in DU, has been completely rolled back. The University has been saved from the unmitigated academic disaster this FYUP was pushing our university system into.
The NDTF wants to gratefully acknowledge the consistent support it received from the Union minister of HRD Smriti Irani. In a very democratic manner, she initiated a process of a dialogue with different sections of DU. All teachers and teachers’ groups must be thankful to her,” a statement released by NDTF -- a body sympathetic to the BJP -- said.
Other parties joined NDTF in welcoming the decision.
“We welcome the restoration of the three-year undergraduate programme and hail it as the victory of the academic community comprising teachers, students and the civil society at large. Former EC member Shiba Panda has demanded that the DU VC Dinesh Singh, registrar Alka Sharma, pro-VC Sudhish Pachaury and director South Campus Umesh Rai resign from their positions with immediate effect on moral grounds for causing avoidable and irreparable damage to the reputation of this great Delhi University,” a statement issued Academic for Action and Development (Raathi) said.
The DU Teachers’ Association, many members of which have been associated with the anti-FYUP struggle since the beginning hailed the teachers, students and karmacharis of Delhi University for the united struggle.
