Gwalior superintendent of police (SP) Pramod Verma has been accused by his wife of having an extramarital affair with a woman police officer. In a complaint sent to director general of police (DGP) Nandan Dubey via email on Tuesday, Nidhi Verma alleged that her husband, Pramod Verma, is in an
extramarital relationship with a DSP-rank woman officer. Verma is an IPS of 2001 batch.
In the complaint that spread over several pages, Nidhi accused her husband of mistreating and isolating her. She mentioned that in the presence of others, Verma spoke to him well but when they were alone, he misbehaved with her. She claimed that he kept the woman officer’s photographs in his cell phone.
The complainant said Verm had met the woman police officer during his positing as SP Khargone. The woman officer, she said, used to come daily at their official residence and her husband would spend hours with her saying they were working on a serious mission.
The SP had allegedly warned her wife not to disclose to anyone about his meeting with the woman, as his mission was “confidential”.
Verma has, however, termed the allegations as baseless, and said it could be the handiwork of his opponents who want to dent his image and reputation. “The profession of police by virtue of its nature attracts many opponents and somebody might have followed this course to settle score,” he said. The news of complaint has come as a shocker to him and his family. “The source of complaint and its authenticity needs to be examined, as my wife cannot do this. I am innocent,” he said.
DGP Nandan Dubey has forwarded the complaint to additional director general of police (ADG) Aruna Mohan Rao, who heads the crime against women cell, for probe into the matter. Rao, who has gone out of station for a training programme, will look into the case on her return.
Sources said that after the complaint surfaced, there was an attempt for rapprochement between the officer and his wife.
