Tribal districts of Kinnaur and Lahaul and Spiti have received little rains since June 1. Kinnaur received 15 mm rainfall, 81% less than normal while Lahaul and Spiti received 35.9 mm rain, nearly 75% below the normal mark.
Chamba also received 147 mm rain which is 67% below normal. Weather department has forecast light to moderate rains in the next 24 hours while from July 22, heavy rainfall is predicted across the state.Shimla meteorological centre director Manmohan Singh said the state had received good rains in the last two days. “There will be less rain in the next 24 hours. But after that, moderate to heavy rains are predicted across the lower, middle and higher altitude areas of the state,” he said.
Singh said there was deficient rainfall till now but could be improved in the coming days as it was just the beginning of monsoons in the state.
In the last two days, Shimla received nearly 40 mm rain which caused damage to properties across the district. According to the district administration, a loss of nearly 33 lakh due to rain has been incurred in the past two days.
In state capital Shimla, nearly seven trees uprooted due to incessant rains caused traffic jams at several points.
