Family members of the victim also corroborated the hospital’s statement, and have demanded that the inquiry be handed over to the CBI.
“The postmortem report stating the presence of two kidneys will surely be disputed by the defence counsel as it is a major point favouring the accused,” says senior advocate IB Singh. He adds that the accused is likely to get the advantage if the police fails to provide corroborative evidence to prove the woman’s identity.
Another issue is of the victim’s age. While the postmortem report concluded that the woman was 25 years old, her school leaving certificate show her age to be 35.
However, according to a senior police official, that was not a major issue. It is the postmortem report that is important. “If the anomalies in the report are proved then it will help the accused,” he said.
On Tuesday, Uttar Pradesh CM Akhilesh Yadav had asked the director general (medical health) and the director-general (medical education) to examine the videography of the postmortem and also check the records of SGPGIMS.
