In another accident, nearly 55 people were injured when a 42-seater HPSRTC bus met with an accident at Mihana village. At the time of the accident, the bus was overloaded with 77 passengers. Locals said that the bus skidded but did not go off the road. The 55 injured are being treated at a civil hospital in Theog, police said.
Transport minister GS Bali said a magisterial probe had been ordered into the accidents. The minister said that bad weather was to blame for the Basantpur accident while overloading seemed to be the cause in the second accident.
10 dead in Bihar road accidentGaya: Ten pilgrims, including a minor, who were sleeping in front of bus parked on national highway 2, were mowed down on Tuesday when a speeding container truck hit the bus.
According to police, 23 people were also injured in the accident which took place at around 2am on Tuesday. The 45 were on their way back from the Hindu pilgrimage city of Deoghar. The container driver has been missing since the accident.
Angered by the incident, locals and ‘kanwariyas’ led by former MLA from Dehri Pradeep Joshi disrupted traffic for almost seven hours. Joshi alleged that the police arrived late on the scene.
The mob also demanded compensation of `5 lakh to the kin of the deceased. Independent MLA Jyoti Rashmi, Joshi’s wife, also joined them and prevented the bodies from being taken for autopsy. When police tried to intervene, a minor scuffle between Rashmi and policemen reportedly occurred. She took out her slippers and waved them away.
The protest ended when chief minister, Jitan Ram Manjhi assured the crowd that their demands would be looked into.
