“In the first incident, a video clipping sent on WhatsApp showed an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) taking money from the complainant for police verification,” said a police officer.
The video was followed up by a written complaint on August 11, alleging that ASI Tuki Singh from the Hauz Qazi police station took Rs. 400 from the complainant.
In the second incident, a complainant sent six audio recording clips in which police personnel posted at the Ranjeet Nagar police station were heard demanding bribes from the complainant for allowing him to run his shop in the main market of the area.
The incident took place on August 21 last year. “During the conversation, constable Santram initially demanded Rs. 1000 per month from the shop-owner’s servant before finally, settling for Rs. 800 monthly. In September 2013, head constable Kuldeep Tyagi took Rs. 25,000 from the complainant for not sealing his shop on the order of the court,” the vigilance official said.
“All these conversations were recorded by the complainant. He alleged that on August 2, constables Ravi and Bijender came to his shop and demanded Rs. 500 monthly to allow him to run a godown. After negotiations, they apparently agreed on a monthly payment of Rs 300,” the official added.
The police said two separate cases had been registered on both complaints at the vigilance department police station and investigations were under way.
