The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) has awarded Rs. 7 lakh as compensation under the Haryana Victim Compensation Scheme, 2013, to the dependents of the victims of three murder cases. In a press note, the district and sessions judge Harnam Singh Thakur, the chairman of DLSA, said that in the first case a compensation of Rs. 2 lakh was given to the family of a person murdered by three persons on the recommendation of the court that conducted the trial.

Of the sum, Rs. 50,000 lakh was awarded to the victim's three minor children in form of FDRs, Rs. 20,000 was given to each of his parents and Rs. 10,000 was awarded to his widow, who was also given Rs. 1 lakh under the Rajiv Gandhi Pariwar Bima Yojna.

In the second case, the family was awarded a compensation of Rs. 2 lakh, of which Rs. 75, 000 was given to each of his two minor children as FDRs, Rs. 20,000 to each of his parents and Rs. 10,000 his widow, who received the remaining amount under the Rajiv Gandhi Pariwar Bima Yojna.

In the third case, the authority awarded Rs. 3 lakh, of which Rs. 2 lakh was given to the victim's mother and Rs. 1 lakh was given to the father.

Singh claimed that the enquiry was completed within two months, adding that victims of a crime or their dependants who have suffered loss or injury as a result of a crime and require rehabilitation are entitled to compensation under said scheme.
