The Tamil Nadu government on Saturday ordered the release of AIADMK volunteers, who were arrested during the party's agitation on Thursday, by this evening. However, the 28 persons arrested on charges of attempt to murder of an inspector in Villupuram district would not be released, an official press release said.

Thousands of AIADMK volunteers were arrested on June seven for holding demonstrations and blocking roads, condemning Chief Minister M Karunanidhi's derogatory remarks against their party supremo Jayalalithaa.
