Nayan Doshi, son of London-based former Indian cricketer Dilip Doshi is creating waves. After being spotted by a Surrey CCC scout in the nets, the 25-year-old left arm spinner was picked up from the Middlesex League. He spun Surrey to victory by claiming personal best figures of 6-57 from 20 overs. The team maintained their second spot in the Frizzell County Championship.

Doshi's meteoric rise, after his fledgling county career for minor league side Ealing CC, is showing great promise. But he has not allowed his recent success go to his head. He said: "Injuries to regular spinners Saqlain Mushtaq and Ian Salisbury have given me my chance and I think I've done okay."

"The 11-wicket haul against Lancashire was great, but I've not really thought much about it. It helped us win the game and keeps us in with a chance of grabbing second spot if we can win our last game against Sussex at Hove and other results go our way."

Doshi explained: "I was spotted in the summer at Ealing and to be honest I was quite happy to keep playing cricket for the love of the game. The Surrey thing was a bit of a surprise but I'm on a contract until the end of this season and I'd love to stay here longer."

"Doing well obviously gives you a real confidence boost and I don't suppose I've done myself any harm. We'll just wait and see what happens."
