Rajya Sabha too was adjourned, albeit for an hour till 1200 hours over the issue with a vociferous Opposition stalling the Question Hour.
Amidst shouts of "Ram Naik must resign" and demands for an inquiry into allotment of petrol pumps, Deputy Chairperson Najma Heptulla adjourned the House for an hour within two minutes after it met.
The Lok Sabha Speaker said despite his efforts to come to an amicable solution, the Opposition leaders had made it clear to him that they would not be able to extend cooperation till Petroleum Minister Ram Naik resigned.
He said under these circumstances, he was not in a position to conduct normal business and that the time of the House was being wasted.
As the Speaker made the announcement, some Congress members trooped to the well and had heated arguments with the Chair. Congress Chief Whip PR Dasmunshi and CPI-M members Basudeb Acharia and Rupchand Pal squarely blamed the government for the impasse.
The House had remained paralysed entire last week over the pump issue and the only business conducted was the passage of supplementary demands for grants for Railways amid pandemonium.
