West Bengal Transport Minister Subhas Chakraborty on Tuesday hinted at reduction in bus fare if oil prices were slashed further. "The bus fare will be reduced proportionately the next day the Centre issues a notification regarding further oil price cut," Chakraborty said. After the first oil price cut by Rs. 5 in petrol and Rs. 2 in diesel, the Minister and operators had described it as "inadequate" considering the global drop in oil prices.

They also demanded a further cut in oil prices following the declining global prices saying a cut in bus fare could be considered only after that.

Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Murli Deora said on Monday that they were considering a further cut in oil prices, Rs. 5 in petrol and Rs. 2 in diesel, which would be announced shortly.
