“The central abdominal defect has caused protrusion of small intestine outside her abdomen which is covered by membranes. Since the membrane is tough, there is no need for an urgent surgery,” paediatric surgeon T P Gupta, attending on the baby said.
“If required, the surgery can be performed here or at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in Delhi,” he said. The condition was rare.
The baby, who was in the ICU, was brought to the PMCH a couple of days ago from a private nursing home here where her mother underwent a caesarean section.
On September 3, doctors at AIIMS had successfully performed a surgery on the ten-day-old boy and he is recuperating now. The baby belong to Muzaffarpur town in the state.
