A 12-hour bandh called by Bharatiya Janata Party has partially affected life in Kolkata on Monday. BJP supporters stalled trains, burnt busses, smashed windscreens of cars and tried to prevent shops from opening at different areas of the city. As reports of attacks on busses and cars spread in the morning, fewer vehicles came out during the day.

Last week a 12-hour bandh was called to protest against inflation and other issues by Socialist Unity Centre of India. But it had no effect on public life.

But on Monday bandh supporters started imposing the bandh right in the morning.

There were no pre-paid cabs at the Dumdum airport.

Life was affected in the software hub of Salt Lake sector V too.

The expressway running through the heart of Rajarhat, Bengal's upcoming IT district was blocked. Bandh supporters tried to attack DLF Centre, an office complex in Rajarhat.

While local trains were held up at various stations, long distance trains too were stalled.
