Senior Police Inspector Vishnu Mane said the victim, a hotel maid, met her boyfriend near an army ground for an evening stroll. That was when Chandra and Mahipalsingh accosted them.
Mane said they beat up the youth and stole his bracelet, chain and money. The jawans then took the girl to a trench on the ground and raped her at knifepoint.
The jawans had taken the victims cellphone and that is how police traced them.
This is Pune’s second high-profile gangrape this month. On April 1, a 25-year-old woman married to a software engineer was raped by three men. The rapists are in police custody.
