The tribes of Arunachal Pradesh have developed a unique method of water harvesting.
For the purpose of irrigation, hill streams are directed to stepped terraces. From one terrace to another, the water is redirected with the help of conduits.
This system is radically different from the rest of the north eastern states that practice shifting agriculture.
