Two men who hit a cyclist with their van, offered to take him to hospital and later left him at an isolated place to die were arrested on Tuesday, police said. The incident took place on July 1 at Aman Vihar in outer Delhi. The victim, Thakur Dass, was returning home on his bicycle when a speeding Maruti Van hit Dass from behind.

"To avoid public ire, the two men in the Maruti Van told the bystanders that they would rush the victim to nearby hospital. They put Dass into their vehicle and instead of going to any hospital, they dumped him near Rohini Sector-22," said Chaya Sharma, DCP (outer).

Later, they allegedly washed the blood stains on the van.

The arrested were identified as Nitin (19) and his uncle Surender.

When Dass did not return home for a day, his brother Ganga Dass lodged a missing report with the local police.

"The brother tracked the route his brother usually took to everyday. He was informed by locals that a day ago a cyclist had met with an accident. They managed to locate his damaged bicycle that was lying nearby," said the officer.

"As no one had been able to note down the registration number of the vehicle, we traced the man who had complained to the police. The man was able to give us the vehicle’s number and we reached the two accused," said the officer.
