Troubled star Lindsay Lohan has hired Robert Shaprio as her new lawyer to avoid spending 90 days in prison. Lohan is due to surrender to authorities in the coming week. The 24-year-old star's new lawyer is a top Hollywood defence lawyer, who successfully defended actor OJ Simpson at his murder trial, TMZ.com reported.

He said that he will "urge judge Marsha Revel to either eliminate or minimise Lohan's jail sentence by putting her in rehab."

Shapiro also wishes the Mean Girls actress to spend time in a live-in treatment centre instead of spending time behind bars.

Lohan was earlier represented by Shawn Chapman Holley, who resigned just a few days after she was awarded prison for breaking the terms of her probation from a 2007 DUI arrest, as she failed to attend the alcohol education classes.
