Two days after Hindustan Times reported that the police were hounding the mother of the three abused children, the case was transferred to the Crime and Women's Cell (CAW) of the Delhi Police on Wednesday evening.
The children were drugged, raped and forced into incest for about 18 months
by their school cab driver and four teenagers.
The decision was made after HT carried the hapless 32-year-old mother's story on the front page on Monday.
"For a fair probe, we have transferred the case to the CAW cell," Jaspal Singh, DCP (central) told Hindustan Times.
The Delhi Police has also ordered an internal enquiry to probe the allegations levelled by the mother of the three children — aged 7, 10 and the eldest a 12-year-old girl — who were being drugged, gang-raped and sodomised by their 38-year-old school cab driver and four of his juvenile accomplices since March 2009.
On Monday, Rajkumari (name changed) had alleged that the police investigators in the case were harassing her as 'rich kids' were involved.
"After I came back home from my children's session with the psychiatrist at Kalvati Hospital, Kiran Walia was waiting for me there. She talked to me and told me that my case would be taken to the Delhi Chief Minister and that justice would be done," Rajkumari said.
Earlier during the day, Rajkumari and her children were visited by Karnail Singh, Joint CP (northern range).
"He told me to keep faith in the police and said that police commissioner Y.S. Dadwal wanted to meet me on Thursday," she said.
Rajkumari and her three children, who are down with viral fever and suffer from frequent bouts of drug withdrawal according to her mother, were taken to the Lok Nayak Hospital where the children have been admitted. "The children have been admitted to the Lok Nayak Hospital and I have personally instructed the doctors treating them to take good care of them," said Kiran Walia, State Health Minister.
Readers from across the world expressed shock at the Delhi Police's antipathy towards the abused siblings and their helpless mother.
"The matter is being reported with zeal and honesty by people like you but see the gall of the police officer who has been behaving in a truly satanic manner with the kids," said Namita Nagpal from Delhi.
Mohinder Kumar from London said, "Your story of abused siblings is shocking to say the least. PLEASE keep up the good work and, continue to highlight / follow up this story, so that justice be delivered.”
