The Allahabad HC had ruled that the site where idols of Hindu Gods were placed was the birthplace of Lord Ram, and the land be distributed among the three litigants.
But, the Nirmohi Akhara claims the rights to ownership and shaibati (to offer prayers) over the entire disputed land.
“Our stand has been consistent. We are seeking restoration of ownership and shaibati rights. We have been offering prayers there right from the beginning,” Chopra said.
The Akhara too favours a negotiated settlement to the dispute but emphasises that talks between the main parties would only succeed.
“As far as the title suit is concerned, Nirmohi Akhara and the Sunni Waqf Board are the main parties,” Chopra said.
