Mallik also composed the score to the animated flick Toonpur Ka Superrhero. “I couldn’t have created a Sheila ki jawani in it because the flow of the story is not such. We can’t create songs in an album just for the heck of it. The music is catching on slowly. It’s soft and melodious and takes the story ahead,” says Mallik.
Two weeks ago, the music director was expected to start work on Mahesh Bhatt’s Murder 2. He had even received a brief, but so far hasn’t worked on the songs. “Mohit Suri is directing the film. I have no qualms but the offer is for one or two songs, which I don’t want to take up. It’s not a fair deal. I composed the entire Murder album and it’s still a bigger hit than a lot of new scores that arrive in the market. After that, I don’t expect myself to be a guest composer on the sequel,” rues Mallik.
Rumours are that director Farah Khan had also offered Mallik the chance to compose the title track of Tees Maar Khan, which he turned down. “Farah and I share a special bond that extends beyond work. But professionally, I don’t want to change my fundas because it makes no sense for me to work on an album that I can’t even call mine,” says Mallik. “I’m on a great high with Yamla Pagla Deewana’s songs. Their videos are among the most downloaded right now. I’m being very strict with my principles and I know it will pay.”
