New Delhi, January 24, 2011
With the success of Dhobi Ghat, Aamir Khan has proved again that he's capable of creating magic with not just commercial movies, but also off-beat movies like Peepli Live and Dhobi Ghat. Dhobi Ghat, an arthouse film, directed by Khan's wife Kiran Rao has opened to "superb response at select properties across all urban centres," reports Bollywood Hungama.

Taran Adarsh says, "The opening at the main 25/30 odd properties was in 80% to 90% range, while the occupancy at non-urban centres/mass belt properties ranged from 30% to 40%. The film has been released in 325 screens in India, which, some people feel, is still on the higher side given the genre of this film [art house cinema]."

The producers, who are also its distributors, feel that a tidy sum can be recovered in its initial week.

The film that is made on a budget of around 7.5-8 crore is expected to recover its costs from the satellite rights itself. Any other additional earning would be profit.

Dhobi Ghat, which opened on Thursday in U.A.E., has made an excellent start, and has got better opening than Taare Zameen Par, according to UTV.
