The BJP also questioned why all the bureaucrats, who had been charged in the scam, were still holding office. “The CM was forced to resign but why are these officials, who have been named, still latching on to their chairs,” BJP leader Atul Shah said.
The CBI filed the FIR on Saturday naming 14 retired and serving bureaucrats, defence personnel and politicians as accused. Chavan is the only politician named in the FIR. Deshmukh and Shinde have not been named in the FIR.
Adarsh was allotted land when Shinde was the chief minister and it was given more floor space index to a build 31-storey tower by changing the reservation of adjoining plots during Deshmukh’s tenure.
The BJP’s decision to target the two ex-CMs stems from the party’s attempt to put pressure on the already-embarrassed Congress. The BJP is already fuming at what it sees as the Congress’s game plan to target its chief minister in Karnataka.
The governor of Karnataka and former law minister HR Bhardwaj has sanctioned chief minister BS Yeddyurappa’s prosecution over corruption and land scandal charges.
