Accusing the Congress government of attempting to shield political leaders such as Vilasrao Deshmukh and Sushilkumar Shinde, the BJP, on Friday alleged that the names of five others accused in the Adarsh scam were dropped in the charge sheet filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

“The state unit of the CBI had sent the names of 18 accused to Delhi, but the names of five accused were dropped from the charge sheet after directions from the Centre. The Congress government is trying to shield some of the accused,” BJP leader Vinod Tawde said.

Tawde added that he had the names of the five accused and he would reveal the names of the five people at an “appropriate time”.

The CBI had filed a charge sheet last week in the Adarsh scam and named leaders like former chief minister Ashok Chavan.

The BJP has been angry over why the names of former chief ministers such as  Vilasrao Deshmukh and Sushilkumar Shinde were missing from the charge sheet even though files for the building had been cleared during their tenure in the government.

BJP leader Kirit Somaiya also met CBI officials earlier this week to sense the issue.
