If the AIADMK is voted to power it will help Christians travel to Bethlehem just like Muslims go for the Haj pilgrimage, promised AIADMK supremo J Jayalalithaa addressing an election meeting in Kanyakumari. Coming down on the DMK  she said its five-year rule had only resulted in 2G spectrum scam, and frequent power cuts, and claimed that if her party alliance was voted to power, people would be assured of rule of law and provision of basic amenities. The previous day saw Jayalalithaa touring the Thousand Lights constituency in Chennai, where deputy chief minister MK Stalin is the sitting MLA. This time however, Stalin will contest from Kolathur in the outskirts of Chennai.

Launching into a tirade against DMK chief M Karunanidhi and his family she said, "After the elections, Stalin and his family will go away to London and settle down there."

Campaigning in Chennai city for the first time for the assembly elections, Jayalalithaa said, "I am happy to hear about the results projected by the opinion polls, but my feeling is that we will get 218 seats. She was referring to a television channel survey that said the AIADMK would get 168 seats.

Alagiri booked

Senior DMK leader MK Alagiri and 52 partymen has been booked by police in connection with the alleged assault of an election official and a videographer at a village in the district. Tahsildar M Kalimuthu, an assistant returning officer for Melur Assembly segment, and a videographer were allegedly assaulted by DMK activists when they videographed Alagiri's visit to a temple in Keelavalavu in Melur taluk yesterday, police said.
