Next to Yanam, rural constituencies in Puducherry reported very heavy polling like Bahoor recorded 92.35 % polling while Oussudu and Mangalam segments recorded 91.12 % and 90.67 % polling respectively.
"This shows that rural voters enthusiastically exercised their democratic right and the turnout of the rural areas was greater than their urban counterparts," he said.
Puducherry region having 23 segments recorded 85.52 %, Karaikal with five constituencies 82.76 %, Mahe (lone segment) 77.10 % and Yanam 94.53 %.
All the EVMs used in the polling have since been shifted to the respective counting centres where a three-tier security had been put in place. Counting of votes would take place on May 13.
