So you've read about all the shots, wickets, catches and gossips. Now, HT takes you into the world of the IPL teams' jerseys and the rationale behind them ...
Chennai Super Kings
Colour: Yellow & blue
flanks
Official take: Yellow for fiery spirit & blue shows the calm ocean.
HT take: Makes sense in the midst of Chennai's ever-present heat but it's too bright. If only they came with feathers ...
Deccan Chargers
Colour: Dark blue
Official take: Represents success and power while being sober and elegant.
HT take: The outfit is pleasant but maybe something more energetic would change their fortunes.
Delhi Daredevils
Colour: Deep blue and red
Official take: Blue and red are GMR's (the owners) corporate colours.
HT take: A lively combination of colours, but the white nettish curves are almost as ghastly as the new team.
Kochi Tuskers Kerala
Colour: Orange with purple flanks.
Official take: Orange depicts the sun and purple spirituality.
HT take: Egad! If that was your first reaction, we can't blame you. Hope whoever designed this doesn't go professional!
Kolkata Knight Riders
Colour: Purple with flanks in gold
Official take: Used to be black & gold, black replaced by purple for luck.
HT take: Does it matter? It's Shah Rukh Khan's team. Even if they wore pink polka dot jerseys, the janta would still scream!
Mumbai Indians
Colour: Blue with golden bling
Official take: India's colours. Gold bling symbolises the Bandra-Worli sea link.
HT take: Though not very ingenious when it came to naming the franchise, the jersey is quite snazzy.
Pune Warriors
Colour: Black
Official take: Black symbolises power, sophistication and valour. A robust colour to depict a warrior.
HT take: Black in the height of the Indian summer and while playing a sport? Terrific planning!
Rajasthan Royals
Colour: Royal blue and gold
Official take: A state made of former kingdoms, thus royal blue & gold chosen.
HT take: Jersey? We were too busy ogling at a certain co-owner all this while. Either way, dull but pleasant.
Kings XI Punjab
Colour: Red with silver flanks
Official take: The logo of the team had these two colours.
HT take: Think Arsenal's jersey. The only difference is Kings XI’s crest and the lesser mortals who wore it.
Royal Challengers
Colour: Red with blue flanks and gold sleeves
Official take: Bengaluru's spirit — sharp, youthful and dynamic.
HT take: We love the Kingfisher labels on the bottles. Evidently, the designers of the RCB jersey do too!
