Teammate Liuzzi didn't fare much better after a crash in the final practice session on Saturday caused so much damage on his car that HRT were unable to fix the car in time for qualifying.
Since neither driver set a time in qualifying, the FIA appointed race stewards will now decide whether or not they will be allowed to line up on the starting grid on raceday.
Aside from the season opening Australian Grand Prix, both drivers have been successfully making the 107 percent cut off time in qualifying. This could lead to the stewards ruling in their favour at Monaco.
