Beena, a Class 12 student, and Savita, who studies in BA second year, are friends for over 15 years. Two months ago, they fled from their home towns and have been staying as live-in partners in Kasan village here.
Savita belongs to Bhanot village in Bagpat, Uttar Pradesh. She was married to a man in December 2010. The marriage could not last even for five months and Savita parted ways from her husband, following a relationship with Beena, said Durgesh Bokan, lawyer of the newlywed couple. “On Friday, the women signed an agreement in the Gurgaon court and became husband (Beena) and wife (Savita). Though Beena’s parents have agreed to accept their relationship, Savita’s parents and villagers are against the marriage and have threatened to kill them,” he said.
On Saturday, the duo moved the court, seeking police protection from the Haryana government. They will appear before the court of sessions judge RS Virk on Monday.
“After breakaway from her husband, Savita along with Beena fled to Kasan village near Manesar in Gurgaon and started living together. In a plea filed before the court, the two have named 14 persons for threatening to kill them,” Bokan said.
