McLaren's Jenson Button crossed the chequered flag a mere 1.7 seconds behind Vettel while the other Red Bull driver, Mark Webber, came a distant third in the 61-lap race.
Vettel is a runway leader in the Drivers' Championship with 309 points from 14 races. The fight is very much on for the second and third spots with Button, Ferrari's Fernando Alonso and Webber being at 185, 184 and 182 points respectively.
Besides the podium winners, the night race at the steamy Marina Bay Circuit proved to be a memorable one for Force India as its drivers delivered a simultaneous top 10 finish only for the second time in the season after the opening race in Australia.
The Silverstone-based team got its strategy spot on for the high downforce circuit with di Resta and Sutil capitalising on a good qualifying Saturday when they were 10th and ninth fastest.
The result brought 12 points for Force India, creating a sizeable gap over its nearest rivals Sauber, which are at seventh place with 36 points. Force India has 48 points and will get the opportunity to add more to its tally in the remaining five races of the season.
