JAIL AUTHORITIES are all set to transfer 11 inmates in connection with Wednesday’s violence. All of them belong to a group opposed to high- profile undertrial and former minister Amarmani Tripathi, who is lodged in Lucknow district jail.  Meanwhile, additional director general, Prisons, SPS Pundhir, began an inquiry into the violence. Wardens and other jail officials were summoned to get their statements recorded.

A report on the cold war between two groups led by Amarmani and others at the circle barrack had appeared in HT Lucknow Live on Saturday. This indicated Amarmani had planned the disturbance by his cronies, in order to implicate inmates of the rival group. Eleven inmates belonging to the rival group were named in a case registered by the jail officials.

Primary investigation had identified the culprits who incited the inmates. But, sources said, jail officials followed the diktats of Amarmani and identified only the undertrials of the rival group. Sources said the jail authorities had received directives from the power that be to get the named inmates transferred from Lucknow jail immediately. Officials reportedly began formalities for shifting them on Saturday.
