While the police claimed that no such thing had taken place during the rescue operation, the local residents affirmed that several eunuchs were targetted by petty thieves residing in the slums of E-block located right behind the community centre.
“As soon as the commotion started in the premises of the community hall, several local youths entered the premises and started lifting our belongings. They even forcibly snatched gold and silver jewellery from several people from our community,” said Chahat, a eunuch from Ghaziabad.
Narrating the entire tragedy, Sobha, another eunuch from Kolkata said, “Was losing 16 lives from our community not enough that we were misbehaved with and robbed by the local public?”
On the allegations levelled by the victims, a member of the local RWA said there were some hooligans who found the tragedy an opportunity to carry out nefarious activities.
When contacted, Sanjay Kumar Jain, DCP (northeast) refuted the allegations and said, “Such incidents have not been brought to our notice.”
