Four blasts took place on Saturday in a Bangladesh district during a strike organised by the opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) protesting the killing of a local party leader. There were, however, no reports of damage or casualties. The bombs exploded around 1.30pm at Navaron Bazar in Sarsha area of Jessore district, along the border with India's West Bengal state, the Daily Star reported.

The strike was called by the district BNP unit protesting the killing of district unit finance secretary Nazmul Islam, who was found dead on Thursday, a day after he was abducted by unidentified miscreants.

The report did not mention whether there were any arrests in this connection.

There was no public transport plying in the district on Saturday. Most streets were empty and shops, business establishments and educational institutions remained closed.
