Farhan Akhtar's Don 2 has collected
Rs. 75 crore (approx) at box office in the first week. Don 2 has proved to be a profitable venture for producers as well as distributors.
The SRK starrer has done exceptionally well in multiplexes but has failed to generate
revenue in smaller centres.
"Don 2 collected
Rs. 75.51 cr nett in Week 1 (Hindi + Tamil + Telugu versions). Breakup: Fri 15.55 cr, Sat 15.32 cr, Sun 18.22 cr, Mon 8.85 cr, Tue 7.08 cr, Wed 5.49 cr, Thu [early estimates] 5 cr. Total:
Rs. 75.51 cr nett. The film has fared exceptionally at multiplexes, while single screens and B & C centres were below the mark. However, the business at plexes compensated for the lack of business at smaller centres," wrote Taran Adarsh for Bollywood Hungama.
Trade expert Komal Nahta is positive about the prospects of the movie. "Collections, from all the versions of Don 2 – Hindi, dubbed Tamil and dubbed Telugu; 2D and 3D – are very good. The producers and the worldwide distributor of Don 2 will make profits. The film will prove to be a plus fare," wrote Nahta in his blog koimoi.com.
Performance overseas
The film has done well in overseas also. "Don 2, which fetched a superb start in Overseas, collecting $7 million in its 5-day opening weekend, ended its Week 1 with a fat total - $9.47 million [approx
Rs. 50.43 cr]," writes Adarsh.
Is Don 2 a hit?Made on the budget of
Rs. 75 crore, the film has aleady earned
Rs. 37 crore from satellite rights. Keeping in view the good overseas collection, the film can definitely be called a success.
