Pradeep Yadav, regional officer, Haryana State Pollution Control Board, said, “We have received the notification that tobacco products should not be sold in poly-pouches. There is no registered tobacco factory in the city. Now, we will keep a tab on the sale of plastic sachets filled with tobacco products.”
The department has been organising special poly-bag eradication drive every fortnight. Besides, it has also organised awareness programmes on the hazardous effects of polythene for the masses several times. But despite all these efforts, the department failed to achieve desired results.
“All malls and big retail houses have stopped giving poly-bags to customers. But local shopkeepers are still using poly-bags. We want residents to come forward and help us,” Yadav said.
Residents have expressed their doubts. Charanjit Yadav, a resident of Sushant Lok I said, “I don’t think that department is serious about it. Regular monitoring is the key.” Last year, the department issued only 244 challans for using or selling polythene bags.
