Commonwealth Games gold medalist athlete Krishna Poonia and her husband Virendra Poonia were allegedly duped of Rs. 6.03 lakh by a Bhilwara-based multi-level marketing company.

The agents of Saajan jewellers -- Prem Prakash Agrawal and Balbeer contacted Poonia's brother-in-law Vinod in November 2010 and lured him into investment schemes.

They also said that the company was keen to make Krishna Poonia its brand ambassador and would sponser her for Olympics. On the promise of a handsome return, Vinod gave cheques of Rs. 6.03 lakh.

Last year, a case of cheating was registered against the firm with a local police station here, following which Vinod contacted the agents and demanded the money back. They handed over two cheques of 2.5 lakh each but the cheques bounced after which he filed a case against the firm and its agents with the Sadar police station here on Monday.

Police said that the matter was under investigation.
