As UPA allies continued to pile pressure on coalition leader Congress to name its preferred presidential candidate, M Karunanidhi declared on Saturday that his party would support Pranab Mukherjee, were he to be chosen. The DMK patriarch is the second ally after NCP chief Sharad Pawar to back the finance minister. But echoing the allies’ chorus that no specific names have been discussed, he clarified that his recent meeting with defence minister AK Antony did not throw up any names.
