Delhi Police may register a fresh case in the US national’s complaint, in which she had also alleged that five persons had threatened her to withdraw the case against Luke Pomersbach, who had allegedly molested her at a party.
A senior police officer said they might register a case if
there was enough evidence against the five persons, including KP Appanna, a Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) player.
Meanwhile, Appanna recorded his formal statement with the police on Monday afternoon. “We have recorded Appanna’s statement and are investigating the case further. A chargesheet will be filed soon,” said KC Dwivedi, additional CP (New Delhi).
Allegations of the American woman
In her second written complaint lodged with the police on the day of incident, she had alleged that five persons — three foreigners and two Indians — had threatened her to withdraw the charges against Pomersbach.
According to her complaint, the five persons had first threatened her at the five-star hotel, when she had gone back to collect her clothes and other articles. Later, the same men arrived at Primus hospital and threatened her again.
Appanna’s statement recorded
The left-arm spinner, who plays for RCB in the Indian Premier League, arrived at a police station in New Delhi late in the afternoon and officially recorded his statement.
In his statement, he admitted that he had accompanied Pomersbach to the hotel room, where the victims were staying.
In his response to why he went with Pomersbach, Appanna told investigators that Pomersbach had met him in the hotel lobby with an injury on his hand.
“When asked, Pomersbach told him about the brawl he had with Peerzada in the room. Since Appanna was already going to the same floor of the hotel to look for a senior RCB official, he had accompanied Pomersbach to the woman’s room to inquire about what had happened in the room. Appanna denied that he tried to force his way into the room. He said that he went back when the victims did not respond to his repeated knocks on the door,” said a senior officer.
In reply to the allegations made against him by the American woman, Appanna claimed innocence.
After questioning Appanna, investigators are now trying to identify the four persons, including three foreigners, who had allegedly threatened the woman. Sources said that of the four, one is a senior RCB coaching staff. Investigators will question all the four before proceeding to register a separate case.
Meanwhile, police have decided to question two cricketers who had tried to defend Pomersbach when they had gone to the hotel to detain him. Sources said the cricketers, who were also at the party, had told them that Pomersbach was with them the whole night.
Statements of 12 persons, including the hotel staff and friends of the victim, have also been recorded.
Meraj, a close friend of Peerzada and an eyewitness, is expected to record his statement with the police on Tuesday.
Moif, another friend of Peerzada, who was in the room, recorded his statement on Sunday evening and claimed that he was in the washroom when the incident took place.
