According to the Bombay Prohibition Act of 1949, a liquor permit is needed to legally consume, possess, transport or purchase alcohol in Mumbai. To get the license, you must be aged 25 years or above. 1. Check list: You’ll need a Rs. 5 court stamp (available at any court), address proof, one stamp-sized photograph (25 mm X 35 mm) and one passport-sized photograph, photocopies of proof of ID issued by the government (passport, driver’s license, PAN card). You could spend Rs. 100 for a one year permit, Rs. 1,000 for a lifetime permit, or Rs. 5 for a one-day permit for foreign liquor).

3. Pssssst (Tips): The excise office remains functional from 11 am to 3.30 pm (lunch time: 1.15 pm to 2 pm). If you’re lazy, you can also collect daily drinking permits from your wine shop.
