Amid political developments over selection of the Presidential race nominee, finance minister Pranab Mukherjee, who is reported to be Congress' first choice as candidate, today telephoned senior CPI(M) leaders Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee and Biman Bose. "Pranab Mukherjee telephoned Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee this morning from Delhi," CPI(M) sources told PTI.

A senior Left leader said that Mukherjee also spoke over telephone to Left Front chairman Biman Bose.

The sources said the issue of the Presidential election figured after SP leader Mulayam Singh Yadav and Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee have rejected Congress president Sonia Gandhi's two choices and announced three names instead for the highest Constitutional post.
