But, parents often enter the school dressed like that to drop their kids. We have not issued a circular, but the staff politely tells them to avoid such clothes,” says Bindu Sehgal, principal of Delhi Public School, Vasant Kunj. Madhulika Sen, principal of Tagore International School, Vasant Vihar, says, “If a parent wears night clothes outside the school gates, we don’t have any right to say anything.
But the moment they step inside, the appropriate dress code should be followed. We had faced this situation 15 years ago, and issued polite circulars to parents to dress appropriately.” Stylists agree. “Parents must remember that they are representing their child in the school and a proper dress code plays an important role,” says stylist Vikram Seth.
Parents say it’s impractical, and Usha Ram, principal of Laxman Public School, supports them: “We should only be bothered about the dress of our students and not the parents. It’s very unfair to expect a parent to dress up at 6.30am. But, if they are coming to school for a meeting, they should be appropriately dressed.”
