The Karnataka high court on Wednesday lashed out at a government Urdu school in Bangalore for being reluctant to readmit a 13-year-old rape victim who was thrown out last year after becoming pregnant.

After being forced out of school, the Class 7 student had given birth to a son in an autorickshaw in April while being rushed to hospital.

On Tuesday, justice Ram Mohan Reddy had directed the school to allow the girl to continue her studies in Class 8.

A day later when counsel for the school authority contended that parents of other students had said they would not send their children to the school if the girl were readmitted, justice Reddy said, “… Let them admit their children to another school.”

“This court will not let the school reject her admission,” he added.

The girl and her mother had approached the court after the school had forced them to take a transfer certificate.
