Overdrawing of power by states is nothing new. Do you think timely intervention could have averted this collapse? The reasons for the collapse are yet to be ascertained. It might be overdrawing by states and it could also be due to some grid connectivity issues. But I am happy that the grid was restored at such a fast pace.
What needs to be done to avert future grid collapses? We had started imposing penalties on states that were overdrawing from the grid. We will have to take stricter action to ensure grid discipline.
Your comments on the efforts to restore the grid?I must compliment Powergrid and its team for such a fast restoration. The 2003 power crisis that gripped United States following grid failures took four days to restore. In fact, US had sought help from India and a team of Powergrid officials were invited by the Federal Energy Commission of the US.
Why are these failures persistent with the Northern Grid? The Northern Grid is one of the most important regional grids and caters to the power requirement of nine states and covers 28% of country's population. Some states in this region have been overdrawing power from the grid leading to such incidents.
