An emerging educational hub with institutions such as the IIM, Xavier Institute of Social Science, Birla Institute of Technology, Jharkhand Central University, Ranchi Women’s College and innumerable coaching institutes, Ranchi draws students from Jharkhand, Bihar and West Bengal.
Most of the students are girls.
Though the police removed the posters from all three locations, the news spread like wildfire. St. Xavier’s College administration strengthened its security. Guards at the entrance were seen frisking students and checking identity cards.
The posters also held warnings for others —locals selling land to outsiders, companies involved in land acquisition and outsiders getting government jobs in the state. “They will be beaten up and driven out of the state,” the posters warned.
Last year, police had rounded up two people from Ranchi after another unknown group, “Abdullah Mujahideen Jehadi Group of World,” had threatened terror attacks.
