Leonardo DiCaprio's production company Appian Way has obtained the adaptation rights for Dennis Lehane's short story Running Out of Dog, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Set in the American South, the story revolves around a Vietnam vet ready to leave the war behind him. He gets involved with a married childhood friend and a divorcee employed by the latter's husband.

Lehane's upcoming historical novel Live By Night is also on DiCaprio's radar. It's the sequel to The Given Day and is built around the intertwining lives of several Bostonians during Prohibition.

DiCaprio previously starred in Martin Scorsese's adaptation of Lehane's Shutter Island.
