The DMK, a key ally UPA ally, on Wednesday backed Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav on the issue of reservations in promotions for the OBCs.
DMK chief M Karunanidhi said in a statement on Wednesday that his party was in full agreement with Yadav's plea for including OBCs along with SCs and STs categories for reservations in promotions for central government jobs. Karunanidhi said DMK parliamentary party leader TR Baalu had emphasised the same at a meeting of various leaders of parties in Parliament, held to discuss the constitutional amendment bill.

Defending Yadav, he said, the SP leader was not opposed to quota for SC/ ST in promotions also. All that he had sought was to expand its scope to include the OBCs also, which is also the DMK stance.
